Submitted by Simone on Wed, 07/16/2014 - 08:45

Typhoon Rammasun, also known as Glenda in the Philippines, has intensified to Cat. 3 last night when it made landfall near Legazpi City. The storm continued over Laguna and Metro Manila, the nation's capital and the center of a metropolitan area with a population of 12 million people. The typhoon is now beginning to exit  the country's main northern island, and will churn across the South China Sea toward parts of China and Vietnam.  Boracay island has been without electricity last night, but heavy rain and strong wind instead. The windforecast for next week looks even stronger...

Never ending kitebaording at Bulabog Beach

Submitted by Simone on Fri, 05/09/2014 - 22:59

Learning Kiteboarding is quite easy for windsirf instructor Gil from Funboard Center Boracay.Kitesurf-Instructor Martin from Funboard Center Boracay shows the unhooked Ralley.

Out of a clear sky Bulabog Beach was surprised with 18 knots wind strength on this sunny May morning. Most of the kite equipment has been stored, some kite schools have already closed and most kite-instructores left Boracay for another destination. Not sure if this is only a last rebel before the wind will drop off for the next month, but every single kiteboarder lingering on Boracay Island has made it within 5min from White to Bulabog Beach. What a greatful final of this season.

Welcome to the tiny, sand island of Seco.

Submitted by Simone on Thu, 04/03/2014 - 21:38

Kiteboarder and Australian Writer Rusty Young on Seco Island.

Rusty Young is an Australian-born writer known for his book, Marching Powder. He was joining the Funboard Center Boracay for a couple of month while working on his second book. He arrived as an ecperienced windsurfer and left as a passsionate kiteboarder. Day by day he went out to improve his expertise in kiteboarding. and it was amazing to watch his fast progress. He celebrate the end of his stay with a 2 days Kite-Safari to Seco-Island and discribes his impression as follow:

Kite-Safari from Funboard Center Boracay to Seco Island.Welcome to the tiny, sand island of Seco.

Length:                            400 metres
Population then:               0
Population now:                You and your friends
Weather:                           Hot - damn hot - with 25 knot winds,
Distance from rescue:      50km of rough sea

Kite-safari to Seco-Island wth wooden outrigger boats. You arrived here through hair-raising 3 metre swells on a flimsy-looking wooden outrigger boat with no life jackets, radio, life raft, compass or cell phone coverage... You are completely saturated and no longer wondering why so many people die in Asian ferry accidents...You will sleep on the sand... You will eat whatever you carried, cooking it using the firewood you brought. There are no luxuries here - only tiny shrubs, white sand and blistering wind. But you have just purchased your first kiteboard and the offshore breeze is ideal, so you and your friends start carving it up as the sun goes down.

And it’s all worth it. Kiteboarder like puppets at the sky on Seco Island.Feeling the sudden lift then rip on your waist-harness as the kite launches you further and further into the air, you dangle from the clouds like a sky puppet It’s been a long day, but you’re high on adrenalin. And after enough Tanduay (which you’ve never heard of, even though it’s the world’s highest-selling rum) you decide that you should go kiteboarding again... at night. It’s slightly crazy, but you do it anyway, and you love it.
Your friends want to trade lives with you. You refuse:Now that you’re a sky puppet, you feel that, quite possibly, you could jump higher than the sun…

Kitesurfing in paradise

Submitted by Simone on Sun, 03/30/2014 - 08:22

Kite Safari from Boracay to Seco Island from on the outrigger.Kitesurfers enjoy the flat water on Seco-Island.

Turquoise-blue, flat water. Constant, strong wind. No other kitesurfer on the water? Not Possible? It is possible… Kite-Instructor of the Funboard Center Crew were leaving Boracay with some intermediate students for an outstanding Kitesafari to Seco Island. With all kite gear packed we head to mainland in the early morning to reach Culasi by bus. On the local market we quickly buy fresh food for the following days. And finally we are all on a boat, wich brings us to a kiter’s dream spot: Seco Island. An island only 400m in length and 200m in broad; Pure White Beach feeling and the best: We are completely alone. The hassle getting there payed off after only five minutes on the water. Exhaustless we are kiting far after sunset, just to be stopped by the darkness oft he night. In the evening we are sitting together watching the bonfire and eating delecious fish, chicken, fruits and of course rice. On day two we all wake up very early underneath our tent, the sun is already quiet strong and warms our cold bodies from the night. We are gaining energy very fast again due to a wonderful breakfast which has been already prepared. Milk, cereals, eggs, bacon everything you need is there, only the coffee has been forgotten by somebody. Anyway, this doesn’t matter, we just want to hit the water again. It turned out to be another wonderful sunny and windy day and everybody enjoyed the time on the water. Some even don’t have enough in the evening. Fullmoon kiting? Why not actualy? And there we go, we are turning the night into day until we fall asleep completely exhausted wrapped in our blankets. On day three there is again time for another short session and then the packing starts again. Boracay welcomes us again seven hours later. Once arrived everybody has the same thoughts on his mind: As beautiful it is on Bulabog Beach: I will do the next trip to Seco as well.

KTA Philippines Boracay Extreme 2014

Submitted by Simone on Fri, 02/28/2014 - 10:04

kta- Kiteboard Tour Asia an der Bulabog Beach auf Boracay Island.Formula Kitesurfen nur so zum Spaß am Funboard Center Boracay.

This season Funboard Center Boracay has been very close to the Kitboard Tour Asia, the KTA Philippines Boracay Extrem...  at Bulabog Beach, Kite Instructor Glynn and Station-manager Simone, multiply winner of the International Funboard Cup in Boracay, went shoulder on shoulder with up to 80 international kiteboarders from all over the world to the 5th round of this event... more than 40 kitesurfers gathered at the starting line at the south end of Bulabog Beach and were waiting for the first flag going down for the twin-tip race. Up to the first buoye we are just talking about going up-wind. It's not about the best kite-equipment nor the best speed. Who can keep the smallest angel to the wind, but the biggest pain in the quadriceps is the winner... The lap to the second buoye looks quite relaxing, as long as you do not get tangled with any of the pro-rider already heading back. Done! Just go "Downwind" all the way to the finishing line. Sounds quite enjoyable, but it's not! This time your other leg is burning like hell! And that was just the beginning... Glynn could bravly mamaged to get 19th in the allover ranking. Well done! With the biggest respect to all participants, Simone has given up and went back to windsurfing and fun-kiteboarding. Cobbler, stick to your last!

The best beaches on Boracay Island

Submitted by Simone on Sat, 01/18/2014 - 05:10

White Beach auf Boracay Island gehört zu den schönsten Stränden der Welt.White Beach ist nur einer der schönsten Strände auf Boracay Island.

As already mentioned in the last time we want to offer you a brief insight about the best and most interesting beaches on Boracay in this blog. There is just so much more to discover beside the spectacular White Beach with all its restaurants, bars and clubs and the Bulabog Beach which makes every wind- and kitesurfers heart beat faster. Here are the top 3 of the Funboard Center Crew:
Pukka Shell Beach is definitely not a secret spot anymore, but still this beach is much quieter and moreremote than White Beach. Reachable via Tricycle or for example also with a bike this beach is in the very north of the island. The name of this beach refers already to one of the highlights: Philippinos are making beautiful necklaces, bracelets or anklets out of the tiny shells which can be found pretty much everywhere on Pukka Shell Beach. Once landed on Pukka Shell Beach one can easily explore the small neighbouring bays, so even if it is very busy over there, someone can still find a quiet place to relax.
For those who even find it too busy on Pukka Shell Beach, there is just Ilig-Iligan Beach nearby, reachable with the tricycle in 5 minutes in south easterly direction. Most of the time you will just find some locals there. A lot of palm trees provide you with shade; pure Robinson Crusoe feeling. Be aware that there is no infrustracture at all, so be sure to take enough water with you.
On the other side oft he island in the south east you will find Tambisaan Beach, one of the most popular beaches among the locals. Reason for that is a small bordering village where you can buy also some food and drinks. The water is shimmering turquoise-green and invites for snorkeling trips. Some small islands nearby, as Crocodil Island with the silhuette of a sleeping reptil, will provide a beautiful scenery for taking pictures. This is definitely the right choice if you want to spend a day without other tourist and want to get close to Philippinian way of life. Now you know everything about the beaches on Boracay. In the next edition we want to give you an insight about nice places to stay on the island.
