Funboard center - 10 years on Boracay island

Submitted by edgar on Fri, 12/20/2013 - 09:14

Yesterday was a big day for Funboard Center Boracay. A new Spanish tapas bar was opened last night at the schools own Tabou cafe. About 100 guests that gathered to the official opening ceremony could also congratulate the school with 10 year anniversary.

The beginning of the peak season at Funboard Center Boracay looks very promising. After two days of low wind all our kitesurfing and windsurfing instructors are fully busy teaching. 5 kitesurfing instructors and 2 windsurfing instructors were all together in the the water with their students this morning.

"We are encouraged by the number of advanced bookings and walk-ins," stated school owner Simone, "this means that people did not change their holiday plans after seeing scary news about typhoon Haiyan on the news. Boracay island suffered no significant damage from the strong wind so it still the home place for one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. And of course the number one spot for kitesurfing and windsurfing in Asia".

Funboard Center Boracay will finish the last windsurfing courses this week

Bulabog Beach is still blessed with nice windy days. Just enough wind to make all windsurfers and kiteboarders happy. This week we will finish our last windsurfing course for intermediate windsurfers in jibing as the Carve-, Laydown or Duck jibe. Gido is the local windsurf instructor of Funboard Center Boracay. He has almost grown up on the surfboard and cruising the duck jibe as others riding a bike.

Windsurfing student Markus stays his first Duck jibe.It is still a big issue between many windsurfers, if the Carve- or Duck jibe is easier to learn. However- we still believe that the windsurf student should have some experiences in jibing and our windsurf instructors would never teach any other jibe frist. The duck jibe is definitely more stable in the carve as long as you will shift the sail in the right angle between 45 and 90 degrees and your body weight is centered forward. Too much weight on the back will shoot your windurfing board out of the water and you will loose control.

Even our most experienced windsurf instructors failing once in a while ;-) As long you have fun while learning, the progress will come soon. Funboard Center Boracay will be closed from mid of April untill end of October. We all hope to see you next season on Boracay for another step into windsurfing or kiteboarding.

Sunrise-Windsurfing and Kiteboarding at Bulabog Beach

At Bulabog Beach you can see the first windsurfer and kiteboarder on the water before the sunlight will shed the early light on the bay. Flat water, consistant wind and clear runs make each early morning session- even without breakfast- to a fiull blast. Boracay counts its last days of the North-East-Monsun, Amihan. Within the next month the wind slowly turns to the the White Beach blowing from the South. Some of the kite schools will transfer to the other side and kite-courses are available during the off-season.

Kites in bright colours are replacing the sun before daybreak. Funboard Center Boracay welcomes all early birds after their first kite-and windsurfing session for breakfast at Café Tabou.

Another day with 25 knots and more of wind and beautifull sunny weather at Bulabog Beach makes the windsurfers and kiteboarders happy. The low tide in the morning keeps the water flat and shallow: ideal for all kiteboarders to improve speed and jumps while the windsurfers still waiting at the beach for more water coming in. As soon as the water level is high enough the kiteteachers are ready to give their first lessons to make sure the kitestudents are in safe condition. When everyone is pretty exhausted and the high tide creates nice waves, it's time to send all windsurfers out. Gido and Simone take every single hour to get ready for the coming Boracay International Funboard Cup next week. What a great spot :-)
